Create a Selective Desaturated Image

Now if you're wondering what on earth is selective decolorization

(desaturated), ponder no more. Selective desaturation is where one element in an image is in color and the rest is set to black and white, so all you will need for this is the base image you will be working on.

First open up your image. For this tutorial, i will be using a bouquet of flowers. Duplicate the background layer & delete the original.

Next using either the paths, lasso or intelligent scissors tool, make a selection around your main subject.

Now what you have are "running ants". These show the selected

area. Next you want to invert the selection, so go either Select>Invert,or use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + I. What this means now is that everything else is now selected, except the main flower.

Next, you click Colors>Desaturate & set to average. Everything else now is black & white.

Finally deselect all by Ctrl + Shift + A and save image as .jpg

Because I do not own the original image i worked with, citation is located below finished image
